Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But sometimes it is not ours to pick.
Too many have awaited their answer,
Even liberation from the oppressor.
So it leaves for humanity many a questions,
And many times lacking one easy solution.
But let that not distort, let that not cause stumble,
For, though queries remain, the call is stay humble.
Think it not foolish, rather see it as wise,
To embrace long-suffering, for there will be a prize.
As one sage claims, ‘Desire fulfilled is life.’
But even the present points to eternity’s cry.
Hence, stay the course, endure with honor,
But do it not alone, even rely on one’s brother.
Keep your heart assured, though all come against,
For we will come through fulfilling hope’s dream in the end.

This is no fictional account or metered poem. Rather it is a simple story about this past weekend. On Thursday, my wife and I rented a car from the Charleroi-South Brussels airport and headed to Switzerland. It wasn’t a spontaneous, up-and-hit-the-road-trip, as we were going to celebrate the wedding of one of my wife’s friends. But still, we were headed across western Europe, and therefore, a six hour drive seemed not bother at all. Continue Reading »

Continued from The Man of Antivia.
Yorund awoke the next morning to the sound of rooster crows. Daybreak had only just come as the red-orange sun began to peek over the horizon.
‘Mmmmm,’ he groaned, more out of frustration than anything else.
Not this early, he thought to himself. He had a rough night’s rest, for it had taken a few hours to fall asleep due to the frightening encounter with the man of Antivia the evening before.

Most are aware that Coldplay’s new album has just been released. Its first major single, Viva La Vida, is also the title of the album (though the record does have an alternate title – Death And All His Friends). The lyrics of the song, Viva La Vida (simply meaning ‘Live the Life’ in Spanish), seem somewhat spiritual. I have included a music video in this post that I found on YouTube. I would love for you to watch the video, listen to the song and then leave a comment with your thoughts about Chris Martin’s words. I have also typed out the lyrics to the song in case you are not able to catch some of the words.
Thanks for participating…

Four sit ‘round the table,
Nothing could be as such delight.
Eyes widen to gaze upon feast,
Water comes over palate on this very night.
Fruit of the grape poured into cup,
And barleyed malt bubbles do fill.
A glass to taste, or two all the better,
The sweetness makes it all the more real.
Sense of smell heightened,
Buds of taste dancing.
It is time to take up that silver.
Plunge it in, the feast as your ransom.
What is this taste?
What is this flavour?
Spices of heaven run over tongue.
Oh, the pleasure and, oh, the savour.
Yet, it is quite true,
And the patriarchs will all the more testify;
The greatest of a meal
Is not always food, but sharing of life.
The cuisine and beverage, oh do delight.
But it all accompanies what is not easily labelled.
That great prize lies as life is shared
When four sit ‘round the table.
